A Heart for Hospitality: Celebrating Robin Buck
AS Storms Rolled In, love showed up.
Over the past several weeks, Robin Buck has exemplified what it means to love our neighbors with dedication, creativity, and compassion—especially in moments when circumstances required us to adapt quickly.
During two consecutive weekends of inclement weather, Myers Park Baptist Church expanded its Room In The Inn ministry, providing a warm, welcoming place for our unhoused neighbors for two nights instead of the usual one. These last‑minute shifts required flexibility, coordination, and a generous spirit—and Robin rose to the occasion in extraordinary ways.
Going well above and beyond what was expected, Robin quickly gathered volunteers who lived near the church and could safely step in despite icy conditions. Thanks to her leadership and calm persistence, our doors remained open to our neighbors who needed shelter most.
Robin’s efforts did not go unnoticed. A Roof Above, the organization that oversees the Room In The Inn program, publicly recognized Myers Park Baptist Church and highlighted the incredible collaboration that made this weekend possible. They specifically named Robin, noting that “her dedication and care allowed us to serve our most vulnerable women.”
These weekends were also a powerful example of partnership across our faith community. Myers Park Baptist hosted alongside Myers Park United Methodist Church, Providence Baptist provided dinner, Queens University students served and shared fellowship, and additional volunteers braved the storm—some walking seven (7) blocks in difficult conditions—to ensure our guests were cared for throughout these frigid nights.
Robin’s steady leadership, creativity, and deep compassion reflect the very best of who we strive to be as a church. We are grateful for her faithfulness, her heart for justice and hospitality, and her unwavering commitment to caring for our unhoused neighbors.
