About the Event
All ChurchStudentsYouth Ministry
This spring, our youth gathered for a five-week discipleship series during Youth Fellowship, exploring some of the most important questions of Christian faith and identity. Through conversations, study, prayer, and reflection, participants considered:
What is belief?
Who is Jesus?
What is the Church?
How do we live out belief?
What is my commitment?
These sessions encouraged youth to think deeply about their relationship with God, their place within the church community, and what it means to follow Christ in everyday life. As they wrestled with these questions together, they were invited to consider how faith moves beyond understanding and into commitment.
For two of our youth, Lucy Pearsall and Jess Garcia, this journey has led to an important decision. After thoughtful reflection and discernment, Lucy and Jess have chosen to be baptized.
Baptism is a visible expression of God's grace and an affirmation of a person's desire to live as a follower of Jesus Christ within the community of faith. It is both a personal milestone and a celebration shared by the entire congregation.
We invite everyone to remain after worship on Sunday, August 30, 2026, to support Lucy and Jess as they participate in a Ceremony of Baptism in the Chapel. Your presence and encouragement will be a meaningful reminder that they are surrounded by a loving community committed to walking alongside them in faith.
A Message from Lucy Pearsall
Hello! My name is Lucy Pearsall, and on August 30 I will be baptized after worship. I am excited to take this step because I have been part of this church community for 14 years and am now old enough to make my own decision to become a member. I am especially proud to be part of the first baptism class under the Myers Park Covenant Church name. Over the years, I have made many wonderful memories here, from Trunk or Treats, Easter egg hunts, and Christmas celebrations to being Baby Jesus in the live Tableau. I have also loved singing in the choir with my friends and learning from Miss Charlotte. One of my favorite things is sharing my faith with my grandmother, Carol Pearsall, especially when we visit the beach and feel closer to God. Through times of change and rebuilding, I have seen how this church continues to love and support one another. I am grateful to be part of this church family and excited to officially become a member.
A Message from Jess Garcia
Hello! My name is Jess Garcia, and on August 30 I will be baptized. I started attending Myers Park Covenant Church in August 2025 after my neighbors, Martha and Ernie Abernethy, invited me. Since then, the church has been a true blessing. I've been welcomed with open hearts, given opportunities to serve in children's ministry, and encouraged to grow in my faith. The people here, including many cyclists who share my interests, have had a positive influence on me. I decided to be baptized after taking discipleship classes with Youth Minister, Dane Jordan, whose support and leadership have meant a lot to me. I'm grateful to be part of this church family and excited for this next step in my faith journey.
As a church family, we give thanks for the ways God is at work in the lives of our young people and for the mentors, teachers, parents, and friends who help nurture their faith. We look forward to celebrating this special day with Lucy and Jess and rejoice in the commitment they are making as part of their ongoing journey of discipleship.
Don't forget: Join us following worship on Sunday, August 30 in the Chapel for the Baptism Ceremony honoring Lucy Pearsall and Jess Garcia. All are welcome.
